Our Story

No assembly-line rehabilitation.

Physical Therapy Associates of New York is a privately owned outpatient practice in Flatiron. We’re Michael Zazzali and Stuart Yeh, physical therapists who have worked side by side since 1996.

Why we started PTANY

We opened PTANY in 2002 because, working for others, we couldn’t practice the way we believed. Too much of the job was meeting quotas or following protocols we didn’t believe in. So we built the practice we wanted: one clinician, the whole session, and care shaped around the person in front of us instead of a schedule or a script.

That isn’t a policy we follow; it’s how PTANY is built. We don’t employ aides, so there’s no one to hand you off to.

Attention is the treatment

Somewhere along the way, health care became a commodity: the same protocol and the same short visit, whoever you are. Research and technology made that efficient. They can’t make it accurate for you. Your injury has details no protocol was written for, and finding them takes an experienced person paying attention. That’s the whole idea behind PTANY.

What we believe

Your therapist, start to finish. Every visit is one-on-one with your physical therapist — the same one each time — in a private treatment room, out of respect for your privacy and so the session stays focused on you. Consistency and expertise matter when you’re healing.

Find the cause, not just the symptom. Pain is usually where a problem shows up, not where it starts. We’d rather understand why than manage it indefinitely. How that works, step by step →

Evidence and experience, together. We apply evidence-based practice. We also know that rehab has patterns that clinical experience has revealed and research hasn’t caught up with yet — so we combine the best available evidence with what more than thirty years of hands-on work has taught us.

You’re a participant, not a passenger. We explain what we find in plain language and give you the tools to manage it yourself, so you can take control of your recovery and avoid the next injury.

Value, not volume. Focused, unhurried care costs more per visit. We think it’s worth it. Cost and insurance FAQ →

More than physical therapy

Our Flatiron space is also home to practitioners we trust. They aren’t add-ons. For many people they’re the next step.

  • Mary Chan, movement and yoga: a healthy baseline first, then more advanced activity built on top of it.
  • Yongseok Lee, acupuncture: licensed acupuncture for pain and recovery support.
  • Maria Santoro, massage: essential maintenance for muscle health and mobility, not a treat.
